217 - ROLLING (VIBRATORY)

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Specify type of roller to be used on the plans.
2) For Type C roller, the static mass, vibratory drum width and drum surface configuration must be shown on the plans.

247 - FLEXIBLE BASE

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Typical sections, lines and grades must be shown on the plans.
2) Width, depth and courses must be shown on typical sections or provided on the plans.
3) Compaction will be by "Density Control" method as shown on the plans.
4) Type D material requirements must be shown on the plans.
5) Grade 6 requirements must be shown on the plans.
6) For measurement Class 4 and Class 5, no payment will be made for thickness or width of flexible base exceeding that shown on the typical sections or provided on the plans.
7) Measurement Class 4 and 5 are plans quantity measurement Items.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) Pilot grading may be required when shown on the plans.
2) Proof Rolling may be required when shown on the plans and will be paid for in accordance with Item 216.
3) Additives shall not be used to alter soil constants or strengths shown in Table 1, unless otherwise shown on the plans.
4) Unless otherwise shown on the plans, the base material shall have a minimum bar linear shrinkage of 2% as determined by Tex-107-E, Part II.
5) When lightweight aggregates are used, the wet ball mill requirements will not apply and the lightweight aggregate shall meet the Los Angeles Abrasion, Pressure Slaking and Freeze Thaw requirements of Item 303.
6) When Class 2 measurement is used, a set of standard platform truck scales conforming to the requirements of Item 520 will be required.

251 - REWORKING BASE MATERIAL

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Width and depth must be shown on typical section(s) or on the plans.
2) Limits must be shown on the plans for Class 2 measurement.
3) Specify the "type" of work for reworking base material on the plans.
4) Show compaction method on the plans (Ordinary Compaction or Density Control).
5) Class 2 and Class 5 are plan quantity measurements Items. No payment for thickness or width not shown on the plans.
6) Stock pile locations for final storage of salvaged base shall be shown on the plans.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When proof rolling is shown on the plans, it will be paid for in accordance with Item 216.
2) Scarifying shall be for full width of existing base for all Types, unless otherwise shown on the plans.
3) Scarified material broken to 2 1/2" maximum size particles for work Types B, C, and D or as shown on the plans or approved for Type A.
4) When new flexible base material to be incorporated with existing material, type and grade of new flex base must be shown on the plans. For work Type B and Type D only. Furnishing and delivery of new flexible base will be paid for as "Flexible Base (Roadway Delivery)" in accordance with Subarticle 247.5.
5) When the plans indicate that measurement will be by the ton, it shall conform to the requirements of Item 520.

260 - LIME TREATMENT FOR MATERIALS USED AS SUBGRADE (ROAD MIXED)

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Typical sections, lines and grades must be shown on the plans.
2) Specify the type or types of lime to be used on the plans.
3) The percentage by weight or pounds per square yard of lime to be added must be shown on the plans.
4) Type of compaction must be specified on the plans (Ordinary Compaction or Density Control).
5) The completed section will be moist cured or prevented from drying by the addition of an asphalt material. This asphaltic material will be of the type shown on the plans.
6) Type C Quicklime application method must be shown on the plans.
7) 95% minimum compaction density when "Density Control" specified.
8) When "Ordinary Compaction" specified, sprinkling and rolling, except proof rolling is subsidiary.
9) When "Density Control Compaction" specified, sprinkling and rolling, except proof rolling, is subsidiary.
10) Type A Hydrated Lime shall be applied by "Slurry Placing".

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) Asphaltic material may be removed in accordance with applicable bid Items prior to treating existing material.
2) If Proof Rolling specified, it is to be paid for in accordance with Item 216, "Rolling (Proof)".
3) When the weight of lime is determined on certified scales, the scales shall conform to the requirements of Item 520.

262 - LIME TREATMENT FOR BASE COURSES (ROAD MIXED)

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Construct in accordance to typical sections, lines, grades and depths as shown on the plans or as established by the Engineer.
2) Specify the type or types of lime to be used on the plans.
3) The percentage by weight or pounds per square yard of lime to be added must be shown on the plans.
4) Type of compaction must be specified on the plans.
5) The type and grade of the new flexible base must be shown on the plans. Furnishing and delivery of new base will be paid for as "Flexible Base (Roadway Delivery)" in accordance with Subarticle 247.5.
6) The completed section will be moist cured or prevented from drying by the addition of an asphalt material. This material will be of the type shown on the plans.
7) Placement for Type C Quicklime shall be shown on the plans.
8) For density control, "DC", minimum 95% of optimum density for bottom course, all subsequent courses minimum 98% of optimum density.
9) For ordinary compaction, "OC", sprinkling and rolling subsidiary. OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS 1) When shown on the plans, existing ACP to be removed and paid for in accordance with the applicable bid Item(s). 2) Proof Rolling may be required and paid for in accordance with Item 216. 3) When the weight of lime is determined on certified scales, the scales shall conform to the requirements of Item 520.

263 - LIME TREATED BASE (PLANT MIXED)

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Construct in accordance with typical sections, lines, grades, and depths as shown on the plans or as established by the Engineer. 2) Width and depth must be shown on typical section(s) or on the plans as applicable.
3) The percentage by weight of lime to be added must be shown on the plans.
4) The type and grade of the new flexible base must be shown on the plans.
5) The completed section will be moist cured or prevented from drying by the addition of an asphalt material. This material will be of the type shown on the plans.
6) This is a plans quantity measurement Item when the lime treated base is measured by the square yard of completed work or by the cubic yard in its completed and accepted final position.
7) 8" maximum compacted depth per lift.
8) Compaction to a minimum 95% of optimum density.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When shown on the plans, excavation required in preparation and shaping of subgrade for completion of shoulders and slopes and finishing the roadway shall be performed, measured and paid for in accordance with pertinent bid Items.
2) When the weight of lime is determined on certified scales, the scales shall conform to the requirements of Item 520.

265 - LIME-FLY ASH (LFA) TREATMENT FOR MATERIALS USED AS SUBGRADE

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Construct in accordance with typical sections, lines and grades, and depths as shown on the plans.
2) Specify the type or types of lime from which the Contractor may choose to be used on the plans.
3) The percentages by weight or pounds per square yard of lime and fly ash to be added must be shown on the plans.
4) Type of compaction must be specified on the plans.
5) The completed section will be moist cured or prevented from drying by the addition of an asphalt material. This material will be of the type shown on the plans.
6) Type "C" Quicklime placement method (slurry or dry placement) must be shown on the plans.
7) For "DC" compaction, minimum 95% of optimum density.
8) For "OC" compaction, sprinkling and rolling, with the exception of proof rolling, is subsidiary.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When shown on the plans, asphaltic material will be removed from existing subgrade or base in accordance with applicable bid Items.
2) Proof Rolling, under Item 216, may be required for existing subgrade or base and soft spots corrected.
3) When the weight of lime is determined on certified scales, the scales shall conform to the requirements of Item 520.

266 - LIME-FLY ASH (LFA) TREATMENT FOR BASE COURSES (ROAD MIXED)

2) Contractor has option of choosing type of lime from the types of lime shown on the plans.
3) The percentages of weight or pounds per square yard of lime and fly ash to be added must be shown on the plans.

5) The type and grade of the new flexible base must be shown on the plans. Furnishing and delivery of new base will be paid for as "Flexible Base (Roadway Delivery)" in accordance with Subarticle 247.5.
6) The completed section will be moist cured or prevented from drying by the addition of an asphalt material. This material will be of the type shown on the plans.
7) For "DC" compaction, bottom course compacted to minimum 95% density. All subsequent lifts compacted to minimum 98% density.
8) For "OC" compaction, sprinkling and rolling subsidiary.

2) The strength must be shown on the plans. (In pay Item description O.K.)
3) When Strength N is specified, must show the minimum design compressive strength on the plans.
4) When Strength O is specified, must show the allowable cement content percentage on the plans.
5) Type of compaction must be specified on the plans.
6) The type and grade of the new flexible base must be shown on the plans. Furnishing and delivery of new base will be paid for as "Flexible Base (Roadway Delivery)" in accordance with Subarticle 247.5.
7) The completed section will be moist cured or prevented from drying by the addition of an asphalt material. This material will be of the type shown on the plans.
8) When "Density Control" is specified, compaction to a minimum 95% density.
9) When "Density Control" is specified, sprinkling and rolling are subsidiary.
10) When "Ordinary Compaction" is specified, sprinkling and rolling are subsidiary.

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

3) The strength must be shown on the plans (Pay Item description can cover this).
4) When Strength N is specified, must show the minimum design compressive strength on the plans.

6) The type and grade of the new flexible base must be shown on the plans.
7) The completed section will be moist cured or prevented from drying by the addition of an asphalt material. This material will be of the type and grade shown on the plans.

9) Each course compacted to a minimum 95% density.

1) When shown on the plans, the spreader shall be equipped with electronic grade controls.
