446 - CLEANING, PAINT AND PAINTING

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Special protection system, need to show type of cleaning, type and thickness of prime coat and color coating.
2) If a different type cleaning is desired, it will be indicated on the plans.
3) For colors besides Aluminum, Gray or Green, the plans must show type of paint, color, and thickness.
4) Specify on plans if it is a pay Item.

447 - STRUCTURAL BOLTING

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Bolts will meet the requirements of ASTM A325 or A490.
2) Measurement and payment for the bolts, nuts and washers required for structural steel connections will be in accordance with Item 442.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
None

PAYMENT AND MEASUREMENT
Payment will be subsidiary to the pertinent Items requiring the use of high-strength bolts.

448 - STRUCTURAL FIELD WELDING

1) Welds will be shown on the plans, including location and size.

450 - RAILING

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Locations, classifications and types of railing must be shown on the plans.
2) If painting is required or allowed, the type and coating thickness will be shown on the plans.
3) Details must be shown on the plans.
4) This is a plans quantity measurement Item.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When concrete rail is required, it will be in accordance with Items 420, 421, 520, 522, 524 and 526.
2) When precast rail is allowed, it will be in accordance with Item 424.
3) When reinforcing steel is required, it will be in accordance with Item 440.
4) When metal railing is allowed, it will be in accordance with Item 441.
5) When structural steel is required, it will be in accordance with Item 442.
6) When galvanized rail is allowed, it will be in accordance with Item 445.
7) When painting is allowed on metal rail, it will be in accordance with Item 446.
8) When welding is required, it will be in accordance with Item 448.

452 - REMOVING RAILING

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Locations and types of the railing to be removed must be shown on the plans.
2) The railing must be removed to lines and grades as shown on the plans.

453 - TEMPORARY RAILING

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Portions of temporary railing to be furnished by the Department will be shown on the plans.
2) Materials and details for constructing the temporary railing will be shown on the plans.
3) The type of paint to be used for the temporary railing which will then become a part of the permanent railing will be in accordance with the paint system shown on the plans.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When painted rail is used, it will be in accordance with Item 446.

461 - STRUCTURAL PLATE STRUCTURES

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Specify the type(s) of structure, the type of material and/or the structure size on the plans.
2) Minimum thickness and permissible corrugations will be shown on the plans.
3) Skewed ends, bevels, step-bevels or other special end treatment will be shown on the plans.
4) The substructure for structural plate arches will be shown on the plans.
5) Details for metal headwalls will be shown on the plans.
6) This is a plans quantity measurement Item.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When riprap is allowed, it will be in accordance with Item 432.

462 - CONCRETE BOX CULVERTS AND SEWERS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Location, size and details of concrete box culverts and sewers must be shown on the plans.
2) Contractor has option of cast-in-place or precast box culverts or sewers unless otherwise shown on the plans.
3) Material used between multiple barrels on precast box culverts will be shown on the plans.
4) Minimum cover to be shown on the plans.
5) This is a plans quantity measurement Item.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When precast boxes are allowed, it will be in accordance with Items 424 and 464.
2) When cast-in-place boxes are allowed, it will be in accordance with Items 420, 421, 440 and 524.

464 - REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) A summary sheet showing the location and length for each pipe must be included on the plans.
2) For full circle pipe, the diameter, required D-load and/or Class will be shown on the plans.  
3) For pipe arch or elliptical pipe, the design size will be shown on the plans.
4) This is a plans quantity measurement Item.

465 - MANHOLES AND INLETS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Details of each type must be shown on the plans.
2) Elevations must be shown on the plans for Stage I Construction.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When precast units are allowed, they will be in accordance with Item 424.
2) When reinforcing steel is used, it will be in accordance with Item 440.
3) When structural steel is required, it will be in accordance with Item 442.
4) When frames, grates, etc., are required, they will be in accordance with Item 471.

466 - HEADWALLS AND WINGWALLS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Locations and details must be shown on the plans.
2) Required special provision 466---007 changed the measurement and payment articles.
3) Wingwalls (square foot) is plans quantity.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When precast units are allowed, they will be in accordance with Item 424.
2) When jointing material is used, it shall be in accordance with Item 464.

467 - SAFETY END TREATMENT

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Locations and details must be shown on the plans.
2) "(C)" is used in the bid description to denote cross drainage orientation when safety pipe runners are required.
3) "(P)" is used in the bid description to denote parallel drainage orientation when safety pipe runners are required.
4) Required special provision 467---009 changed the measurement and payment articles.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When concrete units are allowed, they will be in accordance with Items 420, 421, 440, 520, 522 and 526.
2) When precast units are allowed, they will be in accordance with Item 424.
3) When extension of concrete structures is required, it will be in accordance with Items 430 or 462.
4) When riprap is required, it will be in accordance with Item 432.
5) When galvanized material is required, it will be in accordance with Item 445.
6) When corrugated metal pipe is required, it will be in accordance with Item 460.
7) When reinforced concrete pipe is required, it will be in accordance with Item 464.
9) When removal of portions of existing structure is required, it will be in accordance with Item 496.

471 - FRAMES, GRATES, RINGS AND COVERS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Grate details must be shown on the plans.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When welding is required, it will be in accordance with Item 448.
2) When frames, grates, rings and covers are not a part of the complete manhole or inlet and not measured for payment, they will be considered subsidiary to Item 465.
