662 - WORK ZONE PAVEMENT MARKINGS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show the location and placement of work zone pavement markings for all roadways to be opened to traffic during construction on plans.
2) Show the color (white or yellow), type, and widths of the work zone pavement markings on plans.
3) This is a plans quantity measurement item.
4) Pay for the elimination of non-removable markings under Item 677, “Eliminating Existing Pavement Markings and Markers.”
5) Use the following Statewide Standard Details Sheets for the installation details of work zone pavement markings:

666 - REFLECTORIZED PAVEMENT MARKINGS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show the location and placement of reflectorized pavement markings on plans.
2) Show the type, color (white or yellow), shapes, sizes, widths and thickness (Type I Markings only) of the reflectorized pavement markings on plans.
3) Show the type of glass beads to be used in the markings on the plans.
4) Show traffic control on the plans.
5) Show the guides to mark the lateral location of pavement markings on plans.
6) Where double stripes are placed, each stripe will be measured separately.
7) Where yield bars are placed, they will be measured as each yield bar, not each individual yield bar tirangle.
8) This is a plans quantity measurement item.

668 - PREFABRICATED PAVEMENT MARKINGS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show the color, length, width shape and configuration of markings on plans. 
2) Show alignment on plans.
3) Show guides to mark the lateral location of prefabricated pavement markings on plans.
4) This is a plans quantity measurement item.
5) Pay for abrasive or water blast-cleaning and milling, when shown on the plans, under Item 678.

672 - RAISED PAVEMENT MARKERS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show the location and placement of raised pavement markers on plans.
2) Wait 14 days before placing raised pavement markers.
3) Show the types of raised pavement markers on plans.
4) Show marking alignments on plans.
5) This is a plans quantity measurement item.

677 ELIMINATING EXISTING PAVEMENT MARKINGS AND MARKERS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Use this Item is to be used when totally removing markings/markers and providing markings/markers in a different location. It is critical that the existing markings/markers be totally removed and not visible to the drivers.
2) Show the types and sizes of the existing pavement markings to be eliminated on plans.
3) If necessary, removal of raised pavement markers will be subsidiary to various bid items.
4) Show asphalt and aggregate types and grades on plans.
5) Show surface treatment application rates on plans.
6) This is a plans quantity measurement item.

678 - PAVEMENT SURFACE PREPARATION FOR MARKINGS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Use this Item when preparing to put a new marking down in the same location that a marking exists or on a brand-new surface.  This item requires an old and flaking existing marking to be prepared (not totally removed), prior to the new marking being applied.
2) Show the location of the pavement surface areas to be prepared for the pavement surface preparation for pavement markings or raised pavement markers on plans.
3) Methods for preparation are at the option of the contractor unless otherwise specified on the plans.
4) This is a plans quantity measurement item.

680 - INSTALLATION OF HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SIGNALS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show the locations and the details of the installation of the highway traffic signals on plans.
2) Show the details of the controller assemblies on plans.
3) Show the details of the flasher assemblies on plans.
4) Show wiring diagram on plans.
5) Show splice locations on plans.
6) Show materials not provided by the utility company for the electrical services to be supplied and installed by the contractor on plans.
7) Show the types, sizes and lengths of conduits and fittings on plans.
8) Show sign lighting attached to traffic signal equipment on plans.
9) Show luminaires on signal poles on plans.
10)  New drilled shaft foundations for traffic signal poles will be paid for under Item 416, “Drilled Shaft Foundations.” New conduit will be paid for under Item 618, “Conduit.” New electrical conductors will be paid for under Item 620, “Electrical Conductors.” New ground boxes will be paid for under Item 624, “Ground Boxes.” New electrical services will be paid for under Item 628, “Electrical Services.” New vehicle and pedestrian signal heads will be paid for under Item 682, “Vehicle and Pedestrian Signal Heads.” New traffic signal cables will be paid for under Item 684, “Traffic Signal Cables.” New traffic signal pole assemblies will be paid for under Item 686, “Traffic Signal Pole Assemblies (Steel).” New traffic signal detectors will be paid for under Item 688, “Pedestrian Detectors and Vehicle Loop Detectors.”

681 - TEMPORARY TRAFFIC SIGNALS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show the locations and details for installing, operating, maintaining, reconfiguring and removing temporary traffic signals for controlling traffic during construction on plans.
2) Show locations that signal equipment furnished by the department will be picked up by the contractor on plans.
3) Show the signal timing on plans.
4) Show back-up power on the plans, if needed.

685 - ROADSIDE FLASHING BEACON ASSEMBLIES

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show the locations of roadside flashing beacon assemblies on plans.
2) Show the construction details for the roadside flashing beacon assemblies on plans.
3) Foundations for the roadside flashing beacon assemblies are subsidiary to this item.
4) Show any components that are removed and are to be salvaged and become property of the state on plans.
5)  New electrical services will be paid for under Item 628, “Electrical Services.” New signs will be paid for under Item 634, “Plywood Signs,” or Item 636, “Aluminum Signs.” New signal heads will be paid for under Item 682, “Vehicle and Pedestrian Signal Heads.”

686 - TRAFFIC SIGNAL POLE ASSEMBLIES (STEEL)

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show the location of the traffic signal poles on plans.
2) Show the types and sizes of the traffic signal pole assemblies on plans.
3) Alternate designs, which affect basic structural behavior, are not acceptable.  Submit shop drawings for deviations to the Bridge Division.
4) Shafts for poles and mast arms may be round or octagonal and will be tapered as shown on plans.
5) Show fabrication, welding and erection details on plans.
6) Specify the design wind speed for the traffic signal pole assemblies on plans.
7) Pay for the foundations of the traffic signal pole assemblies under Item 416.
8) Show orientation of anchor bolts on plans.
9) Use the following Statewide Standard Details Sheets for the installation details of highway sign lighting fixtures:

687 - PEDESTAL POLE ASSEMBLIES

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show the locations of pedestal pole assemblies on plans.
2) Watertight breakaway electrical disconnects are required for assemblies used in conjunction with vehicle and pedestrian heads and components.
3) Foundations for the pedestal pole assemblies are subsidiary to this item.
4) Show the pole painting details on the plans, if needed.
5) Show any components that are removed and are to be salvaged and become property of the state on plans.
6) New signal heads will be paid for under Item 682, “Vehicle and Pedestrian Signal Heads.”

688 - PEDESTRIAN DETECTORS AND VEHICLE LOOP DETECTORS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show the sizes, types and details for the installation of detectors on plans.
2) Mount a pedestrian push button sign near each push button.
3) Show the locations, configurations, wire colors and number of turns for the vehicle detectors on plans.
4) Show conduits between the pavement and ground box on plans.
5) This is a plans quantity measurement item.
6) New ground boxes will be paid for under Item 624, “Ground Boxes.”  New loop lead-in cable will be paid for under Item 684, “Traffic Signal Cables.”

690 - MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) The department will furnish traffic signal poles, mast arms and traffic signal controllers. Show any signal equipment furnished by the department to be picked up by the contractor at locations on plans.
2) Show the location that any unused or salvageable signal equipment will be returned to the department by the contractor on plans
3) Show the locations and details for installing, replacing and removing the following work categories:

Conduit, Foundations, Ground Boxes, Vehicle and Pedestrian Detectors, Electrical Services, Signal Poles, Down Guys, Steel Wire Strand, Luminaire Heads and Mast Arms, Signal Head Assemblies, Traffic Signal and Flasher Controller Cabinets, Cables, Signs, and Curbs, Ramps, and Sidewalks.
