100 - PREPARING RIGHT OF WAY

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Limits must be shown on plans.
2) Trees, shrubs and other landscape features specified for preservation should be clearly shown on plans.
3) When removing trees is paid as a separate Pay Item, must specify the diameter of the trees being removed.
4) Wells shall be removed under the Item 103, “Disposal of Wells”.
5) Show on the plans when tree wound dressing is required.

104 - REMOVING CONCRETE

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Specify if you want to salvage the removed concrete.
2) Indicate if you will allow the use of explosives.
3) Limits and/or locations of removal must be shown on the plans.
4) Removal of monolithic curbs and/or dowelled concrete curbs on concrete pavements is considered part of the concrete pavement and will not be measured separately for payment.
5) This is a plans quantity measurement item.
6) Removal of stabilized base of asphaltic concrete will be paid for by the applicable bid items unless otherwise shown on the plans.
7) Removal of retaining wall footings will be subsidiary to this item.
8) Stockpile locations, maximum size, steel removal and other details must be specified when shown to be salvaged.
9) Show saw cut lines when required.

105 - REMOVING STABILIZED BASE AND ASPHALT PAVEMENT

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Locations and depths must be shown on plans.
2) Stockpile locations must be shown on plans.
3) Placement of salvaged material in stockpiles will conform to the dimensions and requirements shown on plans.
4) This is no longer a plans quantity measurement item.  Square yard and cubic yard measurements will be established by the widths and depths shown in the plans and the lengths measured in the field.
5) When measuring by the square yard, the limits of measurement will be as shown on the plans.

106 - OBLITERATING ABANDONED ROAD

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Limits must be shown on plans.
2) Removal of abandoned structures will be considered subsidiary to this item, unless otherwise shown on the plans.
3) Removal of any asphaltic material will be paid for in conformance with applicable bid items and can be stockpiled at locations shown on the plans or as directed by the Engineer.

110 - EXCAVATION

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) This is a plans quantity measurement item.
2)  Excavation Roadway, channel and/or special excavation areas must be shown on plans.
3) Backfill areas of retaining walls will not be measured for payment.  Limits of measurement for excavation in retaining wall areas will be as shown on the following Statewide Standard Details Sheet as shown on the plans.
4) Shrinkage or swelling factors will not be considered in determining the calculated quantities.
5) Compaction method must be shown on plans if Item 132 is not used as a pay Item.

112 - SUBGRADE WIDENING

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) This is a plans quantity measurement item.
2) Limits must be shown on the plans.
3) Show areas to be widened on the typical section(s).
4) Type of compaction must be specified on the plans.
5) Additional embankment needed to build the section other than that generated from widening operations should be shown as a separate bid Item.

132 - EMBANKMENT

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Embankment areas must be shown on plans.
2) Shrinkage or swelling factors will not be considered in determining the calculated quantities.
3) Backfill areas of retaining walls embankment will be measured for payment, unless otherwise shown on the plans.  Limits of measurement for embankment in retaining wall areas will be as shown on the following Statewide Standard Details Sheet as shown on the plans.
4) Type of Material must be shown on plans.  For Type C,  material meeting the specification requirements shown on the plans.  For Type D, material from required excavation areas shown on the plans.
5) Compaction method must be shown on plans.

152 -ROAD GRADER WORK

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Limits must be shown on plans.
2) Minimum length of “Road Grader Work” section is not less than five consecutive 100-foot stations, with exception of bridge replacement projects.
3) Type of compaction must be specified on plans.
4) If “Scraper Work” and/or “Bulldozer Work” is specified on the plans, this work will be paid for in accordance with those items, respectively.
5) When “Ordinary Compaction” is specified, “Sprinkling” and “Rolling” will not be paid for directly, but shall be considered as subsidiary work pertaining to this item, unless otherwise specified on the plans.
6) When “Density Control” is specified, “Sprinkling” and “Rolling” will not be paid for directly, but shall be considered as subsidiary work pertaining to this Item.

2) The rate of application of water can be shown on the plans or can be as directed and will be paid for in accordance with Item 168.
3) Fertilizer will be applied in accordance with Item 166 and be considered subsidiary to this Item.

2) Use a complete fertilizer containing nitrogen (N), phosphoric acid (P), and potash (K) nutrients, unless otherwise specified on the plans.  If you don’t default to the 100LBS/AC ENG, include the analysis and the rate of N on the plans.

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Requirements for miscellaneous accessories must be shown on plans.
2) Limits and/or locations of work must be shown on plans.
3) Size of pipe and fittings as well as type/material of fittings must be shown on plans.
4) Location and details of sprinkler heads must be shown on plans.
5) All boring locations (if needed) must be shown on the plans.
6) When allowed on plans, all jetting operation locations must be shown.
7) Locations for pipe encasement (if needed) must be shown on plans.
8) Protection methods for excavations 5 feet or greater in depth will be paid for as required under “Trench Excavation Protection” or “Temporary Special Shoring”.

192 - LANDSCAPE PLANTING

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Limits and locations of plants and related materials must be shown on the plans.
2) Plan types, size, root conditions, and additional plant requirements must be shown on the plans.
3) Follow the latest plant standards, unless otherwise shown on the plans.
4) Plants are to be nursery-grown, unless otherwise shown on the plans.
5) Backfill and plant soil mix options: 1) A soil mix must be specified on the plans. 2) Compost must conform to Item 161 and must be specified on the plans.  The default is existing soil from plant pits and beds.
6) Mulch other than organic types must be shown on the plans.
7) Fertilizer will conform to Article 166.2, “Materials”, unless otherwise shown on the plans and will be applied according to the plans.
8) Antitranspirants, tree trunk protection guards, and additional incidental materials and their requirements for landscape planting must be shown on the plans.
9) Plant pit depth must be shown on the plans or default to this specification.
10) Top of root ball grade after final settlement must be shown on the plans.
11) Plant basins other than the default in this specification must be shown on the plans.
12) Watering requirements other than the default in this specification must be shown on the plans.

193 - LANDSCAPE ESTABLISHMENT

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Locations and/or areas for landscape establishment must be shown on the plans.
2) Pesticide types, including herbicides, can be shown on the plans or can be recommended by the Contractor.
3) The plans must show if herbicide applications will be required.
4) Type of fertilizer analysis, frequency and rate of application must be shown on the plans.
5) Areas to be mowed and trimmed, edged, mowing heights and mowing frequency must be shown on the plans.
6) Anticipated pruning should be shown on the plans.  Special pruning must be shown on the plans.
7) Plant supports will be of the type originally installed (if this Item follows Item 192), shown on the plans, or approved.
8) Bid Item Codes for replacement plants to be paid for must be included in the plans.  Include additional plant specifications (plant height, width, ….) and planting details in the plans.
9) Areas to be watered and rates of application must be shown on the plans when an irrigation system has not been installed.
