SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)      Specify the mixture Grade for each course.
2)      Specify surface aggregate classification requirements.
3)      Specify if surface aggregate classification requirements apply to other than surface courses.
4)      Specify any additional aggregate requirements not shown in Table 1.
5)      If mineral filler is disallowed, specify on plans.
6)      If more than 2% hydrated lime or cement is required, specify on the plans.
7)      Asphalt binder and tack coat materials may be specified or as approved.
8)      Additives type and rate may be specified or as approved.
9)      If the Engineer will provide the mixture design, specify on plans.
10)    If more than 1% discharge moisture content is allowed, specify on plans.
11)    Show on the plans if requirements for Tex-530-C are different than Table 5.
12)    Show on the plans if windrow dumping of mixture is not allowed.
13)    If a motor grader is allowed, specify on plans.
14)    If paving operations are normally restricted during a specific time period, specify on the plans.

340 - DENSE GRADED HOT MIX ASPHALT (METHOD)

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)    Specify the type and grade of Performance Grade (PG) asphalt binder on the set of plans.
2)    If different aggregate quality requirements (listed in Table 1) are desired, specify on the set of plans.
3)    Specify the surface aggregate classification on the set of plans.
4)    If aggregates used on other surfaces besides the travel lanes are required to meet SAC requirements, specify on the set of plans.
5)    If the maximum requirement for 5 Cycle Magnesium Sulfate Soundness is different than requirements of Table 1, specify on the set of plans.
6)    If the minimum requirement for Coarse Aggregate Angularity of crushed gravel is different than requirements of Table 1, specify on the set of plans.
7)    If RAP is allowed, specify on the set of plans.
8)    If aggregate from RAP is required to meet the Table 1 requirements, specify on the set of plans.
9)    If more than 30% RAP is allowed for Type A and Type B mixtures, specify percentage on the set of plans.
10)  If more than 20% RAP is allowed for all other mixture types, specify percentage on the set of plans.
11)  Specify department-owned RAP sources available to the Contractor on the plans, if applicable.
12)  Specify other tests to be performed on RAP on the sets of plans.
13)  If specific mineral fillers are required or disallowed, specify on the set of plans.
14)  If use of more than 2% hydrated lime or cement is allowed, specify on the set of plans.

341 - DENSE GRADED HOT MIX ASPHALT (QCQA)

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)     Specify the type and grade of Performance Grade (PG) asphalt binder on the set of plans.

342 - PERMEABLE FRICTION COURSE

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)      Specify either a Performance Grade (PG) 76 binder or an Asphalt-Rubber (A-R) binder on the set of plans.
2)      If different aggregate quality requirements (listed in Table 1) are desired, specify on the set of plans.
3)      Specify the surface aggregate classification on the set of plans.
4)      When requiring A-R binder, show on the set of plans if additional requirements other than Item 300.2.I are desired.
5)      Show on the set of plans if additional requirements other than Item 300.2.G are desired for Grade B or C of Crumb Rubber Modifier (CRM).
6)      Show on the set of plans if a specific type and grade of tack coat material is desired.
7)      Specify the type and rate of additives on the set of plans, if needed.
8)      Specify on the set of plans if lime is only allowed as antistripping agent.
9)      If Quality Control Plan (QCP) is required, specify on the set of plan.

344 - PERFORMANCE-DESIGNED MIXTURES

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)       Specify a Superpave (SP) or Coarse Matrix High Binder (CMHB) type of mixture on the set of plans.
2)     
If different aggregate quality requirements (listed in Table 1) are desired, specify on the set of plans.
3)     
Specify the surface aggregate classification (SAC) on the set of plans.
4)     
If aggregates used on other surfaces besides the travel lanes are required to meet SAC requirements, specify on the set of plans.
5)     
If RAP is allowed, specify on the set of plans.
6)     
If aggregate from RAP is required to meet the Table 1 requirements, specify on the set of plans.

351 - REPAIRING EXISTING FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT STRUCTURE

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)      For construction jobs and maintenance projects where known, prepare table of locations and estimate of quantities.
2)      Show typical section including, method of repair, depth of base, stabilization requirements and surfacing types and depths.
3)      Identify type of materials to be furnished by the Contractor and rates, or identify location for picking up materials if furnished by the Department.
4)      For asphalt concrete materials, Contractor testing and bonus and penalty provisions will be waived unless otherwise shown on the plans.
5)      Use of a motor grader will be permitted for asphalt concrete pavement unless otherwise shown on the plans.
6)      Show on the plans the operations to use to repair flexible pavement structure.
7)      If district wants to keep property of salvaged material, indicate on the plans and location of stockpile.
8)      For Maintenance Contracts, indicate minimum work order quantities and maximum response time.
9)      Show details on flexible base for using existing base and adding new flexible base.
10)    Show details on lime-stabilized base.
11)    Show details on cement-stabilized base.
12)    Show details on asphalt-stabilized base.
13)    Show details on limestone rock asphalt.
14)    Show surfacing materials.
15)    Show prime coat’s type and grade.  Also, show the application rate of the prime coat.

354 - PLANING AND TEXTURING PAVEMENT

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)      Limits and/or locations must be shown on plans for planing and/or texturing pavements.
2)      Width and depth of pavement to be planed must be shown on plans.
3)      Stockpile locations can be shown on plans or can be approved by the Engineer.
4)      Stockpile building requirements (width, heights, and lifts) must be shown on plans.
5)      If silt fencing is required around stockpile areas, it must be shown on the plans.
6)      If materials are given to the contractor, it must be stated in the plans.
7)      Edge treatment requirements must be shown on the plans.

356 - FABRIC UNDERSEAL

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)      Areas and/or locations must be shown on the plans.
2)      For Longitudinal, Full Width Underseal:
      a)      Roll widths can be shown on the plans or as approved,
      b)      The grade of asphalt must be shown on the plans,
      c)      The rate of asphalt application can be shown on the plans or as directed,
      d)      Blotter can be shown on the plans or as directed,
      e)      String lines for alignment may be shown on the plans, and
      f)        Asphalt binder measurement (volume or weight) must be shown on the plans.
3)    For Pavement Joint Underseal, roll widths can be shown on the plans or as approved.

358 - ASPHALT CONCRETE SURFACE REHABILITATION

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)      The mixture and binder properties for the completed, rehabilitated mixture must be shown on the plans.
2)      If automatic height adjustments are required to clear obstructions, they must be shown on the plans.
3)      If an on-board pug mill is required, it must be shown on the plans.
4)      If mobile testing laboratory and certified technician is required, plan note must be included.
5)      Station, width and depth to be recycled must be shown on the plans.

360 - CONCRETE PAVEMENT

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)   Size, type and location of reinforcing steel and dowel bars will be shown on the plans. (360.2.B and 360.4.C).
2)   Location, details and types of joints will be shown on the plans (360.4.D and 360.4.J).
3)   Specify locations on the plans with posted speed of 45 mph or less that are not to be tined (360.4.H.3).
4)   Specify in General Notes Class HES concrete and related early opening strength and times when desired (360.2.A).
5)   Specify in General Notes when reinforcement corrosion protection is required (360.2.B).
6)   Specify in General Notes alternate to SS-1 emulsified asphalt for curing pavement to be overlaid (360.2.C).
7)   Specify in General Notes size, shape, and type of joint sealants and fillers (360.2.F).  List the permitted or required liquid joint sealants. List the permitted or required pre-formed joint materials.  If it is a proprietary material, provide the manufacturer's description.  If it is a standard design, refer to the standard.  If it is not proprietary and non-standard, list and refer to a detail drawing included on the plans.
8)   Decline in General Notes the use of early opening to Contractor and/or all traffic if not desired (360.4.K.3).
9)   Decline in General Notes the use of the maturity method, Tex-426-A for early opening, if not desired (360.4.K.4.b).
10) In the General Notes, require the use of coring to determine concrete pavement thickness in lieu of direct measurement, if desired (360.4.L).
11) In the General Notes, identify areas where thickness measurements will not be made, if desired (360.4.L.3).

361 - FULL-DEPTH REPAIR OF CONCRETE PAVEMENT

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)      Areas and/or locations and specified depth must be shown on the plans. (Default min size is 6 ft long by 1/2 lane wide)(361.3)  Allowable widths are 1/2 lane and full lane only.  A plan sheet listing patch sizes, locations, thickness, type, and area is helpful.
2)      On the plans, specify any removal material that is to be salvaged and stockpiled (361.3).
3)      Size and spacing of reinforcing steel including tiebars and dowels must be shown on the plans (361.3).
4)      Early opening to traffic time must be specified on the plans (361.2.A).
5)      Specify on the plans hot mix asphalt to be used for overlay and shoulder repair when needed (361.3).
6)      Specify in General Notes asphalt cure material for concrete when asphalt overlay is required, default is SS-1 (361.2).
7)      Specify in General Notes maximum time between saw cutting and concrete placement if other than 7 days (361.3).
8)      Broom finish required on concrete unless otherwise specified on plans (361.3).

368 - CONCRETE PAVEMENT TERMINALS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1)     Size, shape, details and other requirements for Wide Flange Terminals structural steel beams will be shown on the plans (368.2).
2)     Size, shape, details, type and location of reinforcing steel, dowel bars and wide flange beams will be shown on the plans (368.3.B).
3)     Location, details, and types of joints will be shown on the plans.
4)     Specify on the plans the type and number of terminals in the proposal, and for anchor lug system, specify the number of lugs.
5)     Specify in General Notes Class HES concrete and related early opening strength and times when desired (368.3.C).
6)     Size, shape and type of joint sealant and fillers will be listed in the General Notes (360.2.F).  List the permitted or required liquid joint sealants.  List the permitted or required pre-formed joint materials.  If it is a proprietary material, provide the manufacturer's description.  If it is a standard design, refer to the standard.  If it is not proprietary and non-standard, list and refer to a detail drawing included on the plans.
7)    Specify  in General Notes when reinforcement corrosion protection is required.
8)    Decline the use of early opening to contractor and/or all traffic if not desired in General Notes (368.3.D).
