427 - SURFACE FINISHES FOR CONCRETE

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Type of surface finish for concrete surfaces will be shown on the plans.
2) Designate which “Surface Area” to receive what type of surface finish will be shown on the plans.
3) When surface finish is to be a bid item, include square feet of concrete surface area to receive surface finish on each applicable plan sheet.
4) When shown as a bid Item, surface finish is a plans quantity measurement Item.

428 - CONCRETE SURFACE TREATMENT

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Any surface receiving a surface treatment under Item 427 will not get a surface treatment under Item 428 except as specified otherwise in the plans.
2) Locations to receive the surface treatment will be shown on the plans.
3) The class of treatment will be shown on the plans.
4) This Item is a plans quantity measurement item.

429 - CONCRETE STRUCTURE REPAIR

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show repair locations and orientation (horizontal or overhead) on plans.
2) Detail size and location of drive pins, studs, or expansion bolts and method of attaching new reinforcing steel.
3) Indicate reinforcing needs on the plans if applicable.
4) Indicate limits for full replacement of members or elements.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) Repair material type may be indicated if desired.
2) Indicate if epoxy injection under Item 780 is required.
3) Indicate if Ultra-Rapid materials are required (only if necessary).
4) Indicate if corrosion inhibitors are desired.
5) Give mix design requirements for concrete if different from item 421.

430 - EXTENDING CONCRETE STRUCTURES

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Details will be shown on plans.
2) Portions of the old structures to be removed will be to the lines and dimensions shown on plans.
3) This Item will be measured in accordance with Item 420.

431 - PNEUMATICALLY PLACED CONCRETE

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Class of concrete may be shown on plans; also given in spec.
2) Details of work to be shown in plans.
3) Indicate reinforcing and attachment requirements.

432 - RIPRAP

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show type, details and thickness of riprap on the plans.
2) If concrete riprap is other than Class B, it needs to be shown on the plans.
3) If pneumatically placed concrete riprap is other than Class II, it needs to be shown on the plans.
4) If stone riprap is to be anything other than natural stone (e.g., broken concrete), it needs to be shown on the plans.
5) Concrete riprap will be reinforced using welded wire fabric or bar reinforcement unless otherwise shown on the plans.
6) Show type and grade of aggregate conforming to Item 247 for cement stabilized riprap on the plans.
7) If filter fabric is required fro Type R, F, or common stone riprap, it needs to be shown on the plans.
8) If bedding material for stone riprap (protection) is required, it needs to be shown on the plans and paid for.
9) Special riprap will be as shown on the plans.
10)  For stone riprap, if grout or mortar is required, it needs to be shown on the plans.

434 - ELASTOMERIC BRIDGE BEARINGS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Plain and laminated bearings will be specified on the plans by hardness, size, and configuration.
2) Specify if elastomeric bearings may be either “Plain” or “Laminated” on the plans.
3) For laminated elastomeric bearings with special components, determine if they are to be measured for payment under this Item or another Item.
4) For laminated elastomeric bearings with special components, determine if material and fabrication requirements of this Item are appropriate.  If not, specify otherwise on the plans.
5) Sliding elastomeric bearing details shown on the plans.   
6) Sliding elastomeric bearing preformed fabric pad thickness shown on the plans.
7) For sliding elastomeric bearings with special components, determine if they are to be measured for payment under this Item or another Item.
8) For sliding elastomeric bearings with special components, determine if material and fabrication requirements of this Item are appropriate.  If not, specify otherwise in the plans.
9) Specify whether plain and laminated elastomeric bearings used with steel girders are a pay item.

438 - CLEANING AND SEALING JOINTS AND CRACKS (RIGID PAVEMENT AND BRIDGE DECKS)

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Type and/or class of material to be used for sealing joints and cracks will be as shown on plans.
2) The cutting dimensions for the grooves for the preparation of cracks will be shown on plans.

439 - CONCRETE BRIDGE DECK OVERLAYS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Specify on the plans if cement type other than Type I or Type II will be used.
2) Specify coarse aggregate gradation if other than Grade 6, will be used.
3) Specify if grout is required for a bonding agent.
4) Provide reinforcement details when reinforcement is required.
5) Specify if scarification is required with a grooved or tined deck, if desired.
6) Specify scarification depth.
7) Identify deteriorated or delaminated areas of concrete to be removed and disposed of unless the areas are to be determined by other suitable means.
8) Indicate locations of longitudinal joints.
9) Indicate average dimensions of overlay thickness.
10)  Indicate average dimensions of overlay area.

440 - REINFORCING STEEL

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Note if other than grade 60 deformed reinforcement is used.
2) Note if reinforcement is to be epoxy coated.
3) If welded wire fabric is coated, under ASTM A884, note Class “A” (7-17mil thickness) or Class “B” (18 mil minimum).
4) Note type of splice other than lap splice.
5) DMS 4510 is being revised to remove Class A and B.

441 - STEEL STRUCTURES

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Designate primary members that do not fall under the definition in 441.3.A.2.
2) Note if erection drawings are required for rolled-beam units.
3) Note if weld splices must be ground flush.
4) Designate fracture-critical and tension areas.
5) Designate additional welds for NDE, if necessary.
6) Note if bridge shoes, pedestals, or other parts built up by welding sections of plate together are to be stress relieved.
7) Designate fascia surfaces that do not fall under the definition in 441.3.H.4.

442 - METAL FOR STRUCTURES

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Specify AASHTO temperature zone if CVN testing is required. The geographical boundaries of Zone 1 consists of all counties in Texas below a line which runs west to east below Deaf Smith and Collingsworth counties.  Zone 2 includes all counties above this line.
2) For bridges, specify the grade of ASTM A 709 steel.
3) For non-bridge structures, specify “Carbon Steel”, “Low-Alloy Steel”, or specific ASTM designation.
4) Non-bridge steel with specified yield strength over 65 ksi (former XHS designation) must be handled by special specification.
5) Specify the type of bolt (ASTM standard) required.
6) Specify the class of material for steel forgings.
7) Specify the section for pipe rail.
8) Note if painting is required for aluminum or galvanized elements.
9) This is a plans quantity measurement Item.

445 - GALVANIZING

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Show items to be galvanized on plans.
2) Show any limitations on location of drain holes or slots on plans.
