446 - CLEANING AND PAINTING STEEL

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Indicate if the existing paint to be removed contains a hazardous material (i.e. lead).
2) Indicate if a containment load analysis is required.
3) Show type of system to be used.
4) Show estimated area to clean and paint in square feet for each structure.
5) For multiple structures, assign a reference number to each structure to clean and paint.
6) For colors other than Gray, show the Federal Standard 595B color number on the plans.
7) For “Special Protection System,” show details on plans.
8) Indicate whether faying surfaces are to be painted.
9) Indicate required mean slip coefficient for paint on faying surface.

447 - STRUCTURAL BOLTING

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Bolts will meet the requirements of ASTM A325 or A490.
2) Measurement and payment for the bolts, nuts and washers required for structural  steel connections will be in accordance with Item 442.

PAYMENT AND MEASUREMENT
Payment will be subsidiary to the pertinent Items requiring the use of high-strength bolts.

3) The extent of excavation for the foundation for the gabions and gabion mattresses can be shown on the plans or directed by the Engineer. 
4) The placement of filter material and filter fabric can be shown on the plans or directed by the Engineer.

2) For corrugated metal pipe arch, the design size and permissible corrugations will be shown on plans.
3) For smooth lined pipe, the required gauges of the shell and the liner will also be shown on the plans.

466 - HEADWALLS AND WINGWALLS

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Contractor has the option of cast-in-place or precast units unless shown otherwise on the plans.
2) Apron concrete or riprap between or around the wingwalls of single- or multiple-barrel box culvert structures will be measured and paid for in accordance with Item 432, “Riprap.”
3) Concrete will be Class “C” unless shown otherwise on the plans.
4) This is a plans quantity measurement item.

467 - SAFETY END TREATMENT

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Concrete will be Class “C” unless shown otherwise on the plans.
2) Apron concrete or riprap between  or around the wings or Type I safety end treatments will be measured and paid for in accordance with Item 432, “Riprap.”
3) Limits of riprap to be included in price bid for each SET will be shown on the plans. Any riprap placed beyond the limits shown will be paid in accordance with Item 432, “Riprap.”
4) Riprap between multiple precast SET units will be required as shown on the plans and is included in the price bid for each SET.
5) When precast SET’s are provided as an option to mitered pipe, riprap aprons will not be required unless the plans specifically require riprap aprons for precast SET units.
6) The plans will show the limits of riprap to be included with the precast SET for payment.
