476 - JACKING, BORING OR TUNNELING PIPE OR BOX

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS                                                 
1) Specify the type of pipe to be used when jacking, boring, or tunneling pipe on the plans.
2) This is a plans quantity measurement item.
3) This item includes payment for the pipe or box. Do not include a separate pay item.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1) When required, protection methods for excavations greater than five (5) feet in depth will be measured and paid for as required under Item 402, “Trench Excavation Protection,” or Item 403, “Temporary Special Shoring.”
2) When corrugated metal pipe is being jacked, bored, or tunneled, it will be in accordance with Item 460.
3) When reinforced concrete pipe is being jacked, bored, or tunneled, it will be in accordance with Item 464.
4) When reinforced concrete box is jacked, it will be in accordance with Item 462.

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Location of structure(s) to be raised must be shown on plans.
2) Indicate any special lifting restrictions (e.g., jack locations) on the drawings.

496 - REMOVING STRUCTURES

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) Location of cuts in beams to be salvaged must be shown on plans.
2) For steel structures to be removed, test paint for contamination. Provide the test results to the Contractor by general note.
3) Designate material to be salvaged in the plans.
4) Designate storage site for salvaged material in the plans.

499 - ADJUSTING STEEL SHOES

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1) The locations for adjusting steel shoes must be shown on plans or as required by the Engineer.
2) Include a note on the plans specifying that the existing paint on the beams and shoes contains lead and/or other hazardous materials.
3) Details for adjusting steel shoes on a structure must be shown on plans.
4) Indicate if any beam ends are to be trimmed.
5) Indicate shoe design or jack capacity on the plans.
6) Show any concrete spalling to be repaired that will be paid for using Item 429. Concrete repair is paid for and constructed using Item 429.
