Managed Lanes

Freeway lanes are not new to North Texas. But the concept of a managed highway facility is. The managed lanes are designed for the long distance daily commuter who is looking for the most reliable and time saving peak hour commute. The region will provide this service by applying value pricing principals. TxDOT’s definition of a managed lane is as follows:

"A managed lane facility is one that increases freeway efficiency by packaging various operational and design actions. Lane management operations may be adjusted at any time to better match regional goals." - TxDOT Project Monitoring Committee

The Regional Transportation Committee (RTC) is federally recognized as North Texas’ regional transportation policy body. They have adopted a toll pricing policy to use on North Texas Managed Lane corridors. When demand is low, a lower toll rate will be charged for the Managed Lanes. When demand is high, such as during peak commute times, a higher rate will apply. Drivers can expect to pay more for managed lane service during peak travel times than at off-peak hours. In return for paying a toll, a driver can expect a reliable commute that will flow at a minimum of 50 mph.
