Weather will delay westbound IH 40 work FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, April 27, 2006 AMARILLO – The median replacement and drainage-improvement project on westbound IH 40 in Amarillo will be delayed until next week due to inclement weather predicted for the Amarillo area. The contractor will finish placement of the eastbound safety barrier this afternoon, but work on the westbound lanes, expected to start tomorrow (Friday, April 28), will be delayed until next Monday (May 1) because of the expected stormy weather. Workers will begin placing the barrier on the westbound lane from Washington Street to Western Street on Monday night, and resume work during the day on Tuesday. The nighttime work is necessary due to the heavy traffic coming from the IH 40/IH 27 interchange. The left and center lanes on westbound IH 40 will be closed while the barrier is put into place. Motorists on westbound IH 40 can expect delays and periodic ramp closures during this segment of the project. The barrier placement should be completed by Wednesday, May 3, weather permitting. Once all of the barriers are in place, traffic will resume to two lanes in both directions until the project is completed, sometime in February, 2007.
