Recycled Glass

Recycled Glass

Industry recycles 23 percent of the 12.2 million tons of glass generated in the U.S. annually. At that rate, approximately 400,000 tons of glass containers and plate glass are recycled in Texas each year.

Recycled glass is used to make glass bottles, fiberglass products, various sand applications and even counter tops. Although reclaimed glass can't be used in hydraulic cement concrete because of high potential alkali-silica reactivity, TxDOT may use the glass for traffic markings, asphalt pavement, granular base, backfill or pipe bedding.
