TxDOT begins road widening project in Forney

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has begun improvements to FM 740 (Pinson Road) in Forney. During the next nine months, crews will work to widen a section of FM 740, from US 80 to FM 688, from a two-lane to a four-lane road.

Motorist can expect lane closures, detours and one-way traffic throughout the project’s duration. During construction, FM 740 will be designated as a one-way southbound road. Northbound traffic will be detoured to FM 688 and then to either FM 548 or FM 460. Day lane closures will be limited from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

"We know that this is a heavily traveled road in Forney," said Jan Heady, P.E., TxDOT’s Kaufman County area engineer. "We are trying to minimize traffic inconveniences to the public including making sure residences and businesses will have access to their driveways."

Contractor for the project is McMahon Contracting, L.P., of Grand Prairie. The $2.1 million project is expected to complete in mid-September 2006.
