Night work scheduled for I-635, Town East project FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE; February 1, 2006 Northbound I-635 (LBJ Freeway), from I-30 to US 80 in Mesquite, will undergo lane re-striping work beginning Sunday, Feb. 5, as the Texas Department of Transportation continues work on a $45.9 million project to make improvements to the I-635, Town East Boulevard interchange. The re-striping work will be done overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and should take three weeks to complete. Motorists can expect one to two lanes to be closed during the re-striping work. No work will be done on Friday and Saturday nights. Work will begin on the northbound lanes, then move to the southbound lanes. Re-striping will not reduce the number of lanes along I-635; however, the lane width will narrow. Once the re-striping is done, workers will then place concrete barriers along the I-635 median to allow for a construction work zone. The interchange project includes a variety of improvements expected to alleviate congestion in the area including the addition of one mainlane in each direction and the construction of a new southbound I-635 frontage road from eastbound I-30 to Town East Boulevard. Message boards notifying motorists of the scheduled lane closures and work have been placed along the construction route. For additional lane closure information log on to www.dot.state.tx.us and click on Road Conditions.
