State will install barrier on 114 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE; February 27, 2006 AUSTIN – State transportation officials approved funding to install a median barrier and make lighting improvements to State Highway 114 in Irving. The Texas Transportation Commission, at its February meeting, approved the $5.2 million construction contract. "This decision will help ensure motorists can travel safely on one of our state's busiest thoroughfares," said State Senator Florence Shapiro of Plano. "Safety projects such as these are just as important as the large-scale new highway construction projects that are more visible and resonant in the public's mind." Several types of barrier will be used along the project, including wire rope safety fencing and cable barrier systems. The barrier and lighting improvements will increase safety along this 8.7 mile section of roadway. Construction is estimated to start in April and end in September. A contract has been awarded to Ed Bell Construction of Dallas.
