FHWA grants environmental
clearance for projects in the Dallas area FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE; March 6, 2006 The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recently announced its finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for several projects in the Dallas area. Based on federal regulations, a FONSI is granted when a potential project poses no environmental threat on a community that is near the project. Receiving approval from the FHWA allows the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to proceed with projects on FM 2499 (Section 3) and Kelly Boulevard, both in Denton County. Proposed construction for FM 2499 (Section 3) is located between FM 1171 and FM 407 in the city of Flower Mound. This 2.7-mile project will include widening the existing road from two to six lanes and adding a turn lane at selected intersections. Additionally, lanes on a bridge, which spans Timber Creek, will be expanded from two to six lanes. The estimated cost for this project is $18 million. Located between Rosemeade Parkway and Michaelangelo Drive in Carrollton, Kelly Boulevard will be widened from a two-lane to a four-lane undivided road with curb and gutter. The cost of the project is an estimated $2.9 million.
