Construction on FM 148 and SH 34 to start in Kaufman County FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE; March 9, 2006 The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin a $1.5 million project for FM 148 and SH 34 on Monday, March 20, in Scurry. Work on the project will consist of adding turn lanes on FM 148 at Scurry-Rosser Elementary School and on SH 34 at Scurry-Rosser High School. "With the additional turn lanes, we hope to improve the access for parents and students traveling to and from Scurry-Rosser Elementary and High Schools," said Jan Heady, P.E., area engineer of the TxDOT Kaufman County Area Office. The turn lane project is more than 1.2 miles in length, and will take 167 working days to complete. Additional work on the project will include surfacing and placing pavement markings on the roadway. For the remainder of the school year, crew members will work during school hours. At the onset of summer vacation, construction of the turn lanes is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Various lane closures will take place throughout the project. APAC-Texas, Inc., of Dallas, will serve as the contractor of this project. Work on FM 148 and SH 34 is scheduled to wrap up in the Fall 2006.
