I-30 mainlanes to shut down
for bridge work FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE; March 16, 2006 Mainlanes on I-30 at Jim Miller Bridge to Saint Francis will shut down from 2 a.m., Sunday March 19, through 4 a.m., Monday, March 20. The westbound Saint Francis entrance ramp to I-30 also will close. The 26-hour freeway closure is part of a $1.1-million project to rehabilitate the Jim Miller Bridge. During the project, the deck of the bridge will be removed and replaced with a new deck. Work on the bridge is scheduled to complete in December 2006. "With the growth of traffic, the Jim Miller Bridge has worn out over time," said David Lott, P.E., area engineer of the Texas Department of Transportation’s Central Dallas Area Office. "We hope to upgrade the bridge to accommodate future traffic." Traffic will detour to the eastbound and westbound Jim Miller exit ramps. After exiting, motorists will follow the frontage roads and travel past the Jim Miller Bridge. Upon passing the bridge, motorists will travel back onto I-30. Law enforcement will be present during this closure. Dynamic message boards on I-30 and other surrounding roadways will display information in regards to closures. Message boards also will be placed near the construction area with detour information. In the event of inclement weather, this closure will be rescheduled at a later date.
