TxDOT, DeSoto partner to improve I-35E landscape
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE; April 4, 2006 The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has begun landscaping enhancements at the intersection of I-35E and Wintergreen Road in the city of DeSoto. The project will make $153,000 of aesthetic improvements to 1.4 acres of land. "DeSoto requested development of the area in April 2005 and contributed $58,700 to fund the project; plus the cost to develop the plan and two years of maintenance. The balance is being funded by the state," said Gary Moonshower, P.E., TxDOT’s Southeast Dallas County area engineer. Improvements include the planning of several varieties of trees—live oaks and crape myrtles—and grasses—buffalo, Bermuda and gulf muhly grass (an ornamental bunch-type grass). An irrigation system will also be installed. City of DeSoto maintenance plans include the construction of an entryway monument. Motorists should not expect any lane closures associated with the project, but are asked to watch out for slow moving contractor vehicles and workers in the area.
