The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) promotes diversity and inclusion opportunities within its internal operations and proactively monitors the department’s efforts to increase workforce diversity.
TxDOT continues to observe positive change in creating a diverse workforce. New hiring has been a significant factor in this gain. In FY 2016, female and minority male new hires accounted for approximately 53% of all new hires. As of January 2019, the percentage is above 56%.
This hiring increase has led to higher full time position growth for females and minorities compared to the agency as a whole. Over the past 41 months, from September of FY 2016 to January of FY 2019, the total agency employment increased from 11,458 to 12,000 employees. This was a growth of 4.7% in total TxDOT employees.
For the same time period, female employment grew from 2,549 to 2,767 for a growth of 8.6%. Similarly, the number of minority male employees grew from 3,254 to 3,622 for a growth of 11.3%. The combined employment growth of females and minority males climbed from 5,803 to 6,389 for a growth of 10.1%.
*Note: Female & Minority Male combined eliminates double counting in merging Female and Total Minority groups by reducing Total Minority to only the Male component.
