GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Coordinates regional equipment shop operations. Leads a group of administrative and technical employees responsible for the repair and procurement of district equipment. Oversees district shops as assigned. Operates light and heavy equipment to include dump trucks to evaluate for repair needs. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or equivalentplus seven (7) years experience in maintenance and repair of equipment. College education in maintenance/equipment program management areas or technical training in equipment repair, maintenance or other related areas may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Coordinates and oversees work of a Regional equipment shop.
Inspects, evaluates equipment condition and makes repair/replacement recommendations, drives light and heavy equipment to include dump trucks in order to evaluate vehicle condition. Moves items weighing up to 100 lbs. such as alternators, starters, etc.
Writes equipment specifications.
Provides input to or prepares annual equipment budgets.
Coordinates use of highly specialized equipment for the Region.
Provides training to shop employees.
Oversees annual inventory of equipment.
Writes, lets and monitors maintenance service contracts.
Troubleshoots difficult repairs.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Must have or obtain within 90 calendar days from date of employment a Commercial Driver License Class A.
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for commercial driver, safety sensitive and vessel crewmember positions. Commercial drivers, safety sensitive employees and vessel crewmembers will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing during employment.
Required to work weekends and holidays.
Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.

Driver 's record check will be conducted by the Department. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving state or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct agency business.

Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.

External final applicants for any department position who could potentially be required to drive for the department must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to reasonable cause testing during employment.

External final male applicants who are 18-25 years of age will be required to furnish proof of registration or exemption from registration with the Selective Service System.

Successful completion of a post-offer/pre-employment physical exam at the employer's expense is required.

If hired, employee must provide document(s) within three(3) days of hire date that establish identity and employment eligibility. A complete list of acceptable documents is on file with the local Texas Workforce Commission office.

REMARKS


Employee may be contacted during off-duty hours to see if he or she can report to work for emergency conditions.
