Despite the pandemic, 2020 was a busy year for the I-610 West Loop/ I-69 Southwest Freeway interchange project.

The new IH 610 northbound connector to IH 69 southbound, the new I-610 southbound exit to Fournace and the new I-610 southbound entrance ramp from Hildalgo/ Westheimer all opened in 2020. The I-610 southbound to I-69 northbound connector opened in December 2020. Also, the new I-610 northbound connector ramp to I-69 southbound opened in early March.

Currently under construction:

• The IH 69 northbound frontage road between I-610 West Loop and Newcastle is estimated to be completed by spring 2021. This also includes the Newcastle Dr. intersection.
• The IH 610 southbound entrance ramp from Fournace is currently closed for construction and is expected to reopen in spring 2021.

In February, crews reduced the I-69 Southwest Freeway northbound connector ramp to I-610 West Loop northbound to one lane. However, this entire ramp will eventually be closed for approximately 6 months to make room for the construction of the new I-69 Southwest Freeway northbound connector ramp to I-610 West Loop northbound. The new connector is expected to be completed in Early 2022.

Also, in February, crews reconfigured the I-69 Southwest Freeway southbound connector ramp to I-610 West Loop northbound. However, this entire ramp will also eventually be closed for approximately two months to make room for the construction of the new I-69 Southwest Freeway southbound connector ramp to I-610 West Loop northbound. This new ramp is expected to be completed in Fall 2021.

We are continue to make great progress on the I-610 West Loop/ I-69 Southwest Freeway interchange project. Each day we work with the contractor to take every opportunity to accelerate work where we can.
