Heavy Equipment Operator -
Qualification Tests and Skills Tests
Employees may "test-out" of heavy equipment courses by
taking qualifying exams. These exams are "hand-on" and require
approximately two hours to take. To see the lists of the skills to
be tested, click on the course titles below. There is no charge to
employees for taking the exams. Employees desiring to take the qualifying
exams should request them through their supervisors who will coordinate
with district training coordinators. District training coordinators will
then coordinate with TQD to schedule the qualifying exams. The exams will
be offered at district locations depending on demand and budget
constraints. The following courses presently have qualifying exams:
Asphalt
Distributor Operator: Qualification
Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One Asphalt Distributor (empty of
asphalt, similar to what the candidate works with daily.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Asphalt Distributor
Training.
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Backhoe Operator:
Qualification Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Backhoe Training. (HOST
WILL CALL BEFORE WE DIG).
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Bucket Truck:
Qualification Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required:
As a minimum, one boom
truck will be needed.
- Training Area:
The class needs both a
classroom and an outside area where the equipment can be operated.
Bucket Truck and Digger
Derrick Operations: Qualification
Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: As a minimum, one boom truck and one
digger derrick truck will be needed.
- Training Area: The class needs both a classroom and an
outside area where the equipment can be operated.
Dozer Operator: Qualification
Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Dozer Training. (HOST
WILL CALL BEFORE WE DIG).
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Dragline Operator:
Qualification Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Dragline Training. (HOST
WILL CALL BEFORE WE DIG).
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Gradall Operator:
Qualification Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on and a dump truck.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Gradall Training. (HOST
WILL CALL BEFORE WE DIG).
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Loader Operator:
Qualification Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on and a dump truck.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Loader Training. (HOST
WILL CALL BEFORE WE DIG).
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Maintainer
Operator--Basic: Qualification Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Basic Maintainer
Training. (HOST WILL CALL BEFORE WE DIG).
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Maintainer
Operator--Intermediate: Qualification Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Intermediate Maintainer
Training. (HOST WILL CALL BEFORE WE DIG).
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Maintainer
Operator--Advanced: Qualification Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Advance Maintainer
Training. (HOST WILL CALL BEFORE WE DIG).
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Roller Operator, Metal
Flat Wheel: Qualification Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Roller Training. (HOST
WILL CALL BEFORE WE DIG).
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Roller Operator,
Pneumatic: Qualification Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Roller Training. (HOST
WILL CALL BEFORE WE DIG).
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Skid Steer: Qualification
Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Skid Steer Training.
- The instructor will determine if the test can be completed based on
any deviation from equipment requirements or candidates capabilities.
Sweeper Operator:
Qualification Test and Skills Test
- Equipment Required: One piece of equipment the candidate will
be tested on.
- Training Area: Same type area as for Sweeper Training. (HOST
WILL CALL BEFORE WE DIG).
