John B. Love III, elected to represent and serve as councilman for the City of Midland District 2 in 2012, graduated with honors in 1986 from Midland High School. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in economics.

Love, who served as mayor pro tem for the city council in 2014, began his second term as council member in 2016. He is the chairman of the Permian Basin Metropolitan Planning Organization. He is also past president and current member of the Midland Space Development Corporation, chairman of the Tall City Taskforce and director of Region IV for the Texas Municipal League and serves on its board.

Love was voted Best Financial Advisor by the public in the Midland Reporter-Telegram’s The Best of Midland in 1998 and is currently a financial advisor and co-owner of Paperwerks LLC. Love formerly served as chair of the city’s planning and zoning commission, and was the first african-american and youngest person to do so.

He has held leadership positions in several professional and civic organizations, including the Midland County Fair, Inc., Goodwill Midland Advisors Board, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Cultural Center of Midland, Midland Jaycees, Iota Rho Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas. He is a former member of Circle of The Entrepreneurs’ Network and remains active as a member of Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society.
