I-10 / Schuster Ramp Project

This project is designed to relieve current traffic congestion at the Schuster Ave. Interchange on I-10 westbound and Schuster Ave. The project extends along I-10 approximately 0.7 miles west from Schuster Avenue and 0.5 miles east from Schuster Avenue and includes interchange and ramp improvements.

Roadway reconstruction will consist of the relocation of the westbound exit and entrance ramps at Schuster Ave.; the extension of the frontage road that will intersect with the newly built UTEP roundabout (allowing direct access to the interstate from the roundabout); and the construction of a new bridge structure over Schuster Ave. (for frontage road extension). Upon completion of the project, the westbound exit ramp will have two exit lanes exit. Commuters will still be able to use the Shuster intersection or have the ability to by-pass the intersection at Schuster via the new bridge and connect to University Ave.

This work will be accomplished with continuously reinforced concrete pavement, retaining walls, storm drainage system, illumination, and landscaping.

Summary:

  • Additional westbound exit lane from I-10 to Schuster Ave. (two-lane exit ramp)
  • Two-lane on westbound I-10 exit ramp extension overpass, over Schuster Ave. connecting to the University Ave. extension
  • Widening of existing westbound I-10 entrance ramp to two-lanes prior to the one lane merge at the proposed westbound I-10 ramp extension
  • Access to the new Roundabout entrance to the UTEP campus; identified in UTEP’s master plan (the extension of University Ave. to the proposed westbound Schuster Ave. ramp extension)

Project Duration: 297 working Days (approximately 15 months)
