I-30 Corridor Timeline
1917
U.S. 1 is designated as Texas' first east/west state-to-state highway, passing
through Fort Worth along the existing I-30 route. U.S. 1 is later designated as
U.S. 80.
1947
SH 550 (present-day I-30) completed from Camp Bowie Blvd. to Summit Ave. (see
1971).
1959
SH 550 designated as I-20 after interstate system is created.
1957
The Dallas/Fort Worth Turnpike completed from Fort Worth to Dallas as a six-lane
expressway at a cost of $52 million.
1958
Original I-30/I-35W Interchange completed at a cost of $1.2 million.
1959
I-20 completed from Spur 341 to Camp Bowie Blvd.
1959
I-20 elevated expressway completed from Summit Ave. to I-35W with frontage roads
at a cost of $1.8 million.
1967
I-20 expanded from six lanes to eight lanes from I-35W to Oakland Blvd. at a
cost of $783,000.
1971
I-20 becomes I-30 (after South Loop 820 is designated I-20).
1975
I-30/I-820 West Interchange completed at a cost of $7.1 million.
1978
The Dallas/Fort Worth Turnpike is changed to a non-tolled highway and designated
I-30.
1990
I-30 widened to six and eight lanes from I-820 to Summit Ave. at a cost of $73
million.
1991
I-30/I-820 East Interchange completed at a cost of $59.1 million.
1997
I-30 bridges reconstructed at Cottonwood, Johnson and Village Creeks with median
barrier from Oakland Blvd. to I-820 at a cost of $18 million.
2003
New I-30/I-35W Interchange completed for $173 million.
2003
I-30 ramps reconstructed from Oakland Blvd. to I-820 with new bridges at Oakland
Blvd. and Beach St. for $7.5 million.
