John L. Mica was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1992 to represent the 7th Congressional District of Florida and is currently serving his eighth term.

In January 2007, Rep. Mica was selected by his peers in the House to serve as the Republican Leader of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. As such, the Congressman serves on all six Subcommittees including Aviation; Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation; Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management; Highways and Transit; Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials; and Water Resources and Environment.

While Republican Leader of the Committee, Rep. Mica has successfully passed the Water Resources Development Act—authorizing funds for hundreds of navigation, flood control and environmental restoration projects—and is currently working on the FAA Reauthorization, high speed rail alternatives, a “National Strategic Transportation Plan” and other projects.

Additionally, the Congressman serves on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee as a senior Member.
