State Senator Eliot Shapleigh represents the 29th Senatorial District which comprises the majority of El Paso County, Texas. He is a fifth generation El Pasoan, a lawyer, businessman and civic activist.

In May 2007, Senator Shapleigh completed his sixth session as a legislator. During his tenure as a state Senator, he has authored or sponsored more than 400 bills, with particular focus on education, economic development, infrastructure, technology, veteran and health care issues. He has been integral in helping prepare the State for the Department of Defense's periodic reassessment of infrastructure needs, or base realignment and closure (BRAC). Additionally, Shapleigh is a member of the Health & Human Services Committee, Nominations, Transportation & Homeland Security, and the Sunset Advisory Commission.

Senator Shapleigh is dedicated to working on equity in state funding, job creation, fairness in state taxation, border infrastructure, skilled workforce development, and community solutions for health and safety issues. He has lived and traveled extensively in Mexico, is fluent in Spanish and well-versed on international trade issues.

He is a graduate of Rice University and the University of Texas School of Law.
