Mary Peters is Senior Adviser to infrastructure developer/investor Zachry American Infrastructure and the Zachry Hastings Alliance in the pursuit of growth and development of infrastructure projects in the transportation, energy, water, aviation and ports sectors. On behalf of ZHA, Peters educates public entities on the merits of partnering with private-sector developers and investors.
Peters served as U.S. Secretary of Transportation from 2006–2009. She led efforts to substantially improve the safety and performance of the nation’s transportation system while developing new policy and funding sources.
While serving as Federal Highway Administrator for USDOT from 2001-2005, she was responsible for federal-aid and federal lands highway programs (including the interstate highway system and the national highway system) and worked with the Administration and Congress to enact a multi-year surface transportation bill, SAFETEA-LU.
Peters was Arizona Department of Transportation Director before joining FHWA.
