Melanie Alvord

Senior Legislative Assistant to Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson

Melanie Alvord began her Capitol Hill career in 1989 as a staff assistant to Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska. Alvord quickly took an interest in transportation issues given their unique impact on the landscape of the “Last Frontier.” She continued her transportation-related work while working for a public affairs firm in Seattle in the late 90s, which counted Alaska Airlines among its clients.

In 2000, she returned to Capitol Hill and held positions on both the Senate Committee on Appropriations and the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. Both committees allowed Alvord to remain active in transportation policy, including aviation, rail, highways, maritime and transportation safety. In 2009, she joined the staff of Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson as a senior legislative assistant handling all issues related to transportation, water resources and infrastructure.
