From the Texas/New Mexico State Line at Texline via Dalhart, Dumas, Amarillo, Canyon, Tulia, Plainview, Lubbock, Tahoka, Lamesa, Big Spring, Sterling City, San Angelo, Eden, Brady, Mason, Fredericksburg, Boerne, San Antonio, Stockdale, Cuero, and Victoria to Port Lavaca. (Dallam, Hartley, Moore, Potter, Randall, Swisher, Hale, Lubbock, Lynn, Dawson, Martin, Howard, Glasscock, Sterling, Tom Green, Concho, McCulloch, Mason, Gillespie, Kendall, Bexar, Wilson, Gonzales, DeWitt, Victoria, and Calhoun Counties). The existing location of US 87 was redesignated from IH 20 north of Big Spring southward to a location near Mitchell Road as Business US 87-M, a distance of approximately 5.5 miles.

In and near the city of Big Spring, a segment of US 87 was redesignated on the state highway system as BU 87-M from I-20 northward to approximately 0.5 mile north of FM 700, a total distance of approximately 2.5 miles. (Howard County) Extension: Due to Redesignation of Other Route
