(It is understood that the location of US 59 between Page, Oklahoma, and Maud, Texas, as given in this description, is temporary awaiting a more direct route between these points so that it will not be necessary to have US 59 and US 71 traverse the same territory, which will greatly shorten the distance for US 59 between these points.)

From the Texas-Arkansas State Line via Texarkana, Maud, Linden, Jefferson, Marshall, Carthage, Tenaha, Timpson, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Corrigan, Livingston, and Cleveland to Houston, then follow US 90 from Houston to Rosenberg; then from Rosenberg via Wharton, Victoria, and Goliad to Beeville; then follow US 181 from Beeville to Skidmore; then from Skidmore via Mathis, Alice, and Hebbronville to Laredo. From the Texas-Arkansas State line via Texarkana, Maud, Linden, Jefferson, Marshall, Carthage, Teneha, Timpson, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Corrigan, Livingston, Cleveland, Houston, Rosenberg, Wharton, Victoria and Goliad to Beeville; then follow US 181 from Beeville to Skidmore; then from Skidmore via Mathis, Alice and Hebbronville to Laredo. Eliminate reference to following US 90 from Houston to Rosenberg.

In the city of Laredo, a segment of SL 20 was redesignated on the state highway system as US 59 from the entrance to the World Trade Bridge approximately 0.6 mile west of FM 1472, eastwards and southwards to the intersection of existing SL 20 and existing US 59, a total distance of approximately 10.9 milesa. Additionally, a segment of US 59 was redesignated on the state highway system as BU 59-Z from the intersection of existing SL 20 and existing US 59, westward to the southern terminus of US 59 at the intersection of I-35, a distance of approximately 3.6 milesb. In and near the city of Marshall, a segment of US 59 was redesignated as BU 59-C from Henderson School Road southward to approximately 1.0 mile south of FM 2625, a distance of approximately 13.9 milesa. Additionally, a segment of US 59 was designated on a new location on the state highway system from Henderson School Road southward to SL 390, a distance of approximately 3.2 milesb. Additionally, a segment of US 59 was designated concurrently with SL 390 from Harris Lake Road southeastward to US 80, a distance of approximately 3.5 milesc.
