Interstate 35/Loop 340 Bridge construction begins in Waco

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, December 28, 2004

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin the bridge construction phase of the I-35/Loop 340 Interchange reconstruction project, on January 3, 2005.

The project will involve removing the two existing bridges and building 4 new bridges over I-35 and one direct connector to northbound IH 35 from southbound SH6/Loop 340. It will also involve permanent changes to the current traffic patterns on the northbound and southbound frontage roads between the interchange and Exit 328 (Farm to Market Road 2063).

Initial construction work at the interchange will involve the relocation of utilities and other site preparations and should not impact on the mainlanes of I-35 or SH6/Loop 340.

The two-year bridge construction project will be undertaken by Archer Western Contractors Ltd., of Arlington, Texas at an estimated cost of $40 million and is projected for completion in the Spring of 2007.

Motorists are advised to observe all warning signs and traffic control devices in the project area. Fines for speed violations will be doubled in the work zone. Some traffic congestion and minor delays can be expected for the duration of the project.
